Lessons

ISR swim instruction is for children 6 months to 6 years with all one-on-one instruction.  Lessons are conducted 5 days a week (Monday through Friday), at a maximum of 10 minutes a day, for approximately 6 weeks.  Each child has their own lesson time daily.

Rollback to Float

Infants to Early Walkers

The rollback to float program teaches babies to independently get onto their back if ever face down in the water and safely breathe, rest, and wait for help to arrive.

  • Baby must be able to get him/herself into a sitting position and maintain that position for 60 seconds.

  • Families need to commit to this learning philosophy by coming daily and agreeing to abandon the use of traditional floatation devices such as puddle jumpers and water wings.

  • All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking well will learn to maintain this position until help can reach them, and it's just as important for our older students as they incorporate more swimming skills.

Swim Float Swim

Solid Walkers

The swim-float-swim program teaches your child to swim underwater until they need to breathe, roll to their back for a few breaths until rested, then swim starting the sequence again until they reach the pool steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline.

  • Child must be solidly, confidently walking and ideally one year old.

  • Families need to commit to this learning philosophy by coming daily and agreeing to abandon the use of traditional floatation devices such as puddle jumpers and water wings.

  • As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills on land, they are ready to learn more skills in the water as well. ISR teaches children to swim a short distance, rotate onto their back to a floating position, and then turn over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating until they can reach safety at the steps, side of the pool, or shoreline.

 Refreshers/

Maintenance

These courses are for Swim-Float-Swim graduates to refine and refresh their skills.

Recommended annually or bi-annually until children are six.

  • Students need to adjust their skills to accommodate bigger, stronger bodies as they grow. ISR suggests refreshers every six months or yearly. It typically only takes two weeks to get them back in tip top shape for the summer!

  • 1-2 lessons to reset skills after vacation or boating/swimming in life jacket, or if parents notice a skill regression. Students must have completed a full refresher course within the last 3 months to be eligible for Maintenance lessons.
